In 1610, a wayside shrine dedicated to the Virgin was erected not far from the Podio, on which the perfectly preserved and recently restored chapel would be built in 1664.
It is a pilgrimage destination both for the people of Novello and the faithful from neighboring towns.
The icon above the altar by an unknown artist depicts the Virgin and Child, in conversation with S. Francis. The fresco reveals the gentleness of the face just as the careful brushstrokes emphasize the gracefulness of Mary’s motherhood. It is a work that clearly demonstrates the artist’s inspiration as well as his confidence in his form of artistic expression.
The church is adorned with other paintings, testimony of the people’s faith in the martyrdom of St. Agata and the icon of St. Bovo.
