The Church of Saint Lucy is a unique building like a cave dug into a layer of sedimentary rock (known locally as a "tov") amidst the vineyards on the road between Novello and Ravera.
The first building dates back to 1700 that was, following a landslide caused by heavy rainfall, rebuilt and enlarged in 1827. It was again restored in 1875 and 1990.
The care devoted to this little shrine testifies to the devotion dedicated to the young Syracusan, martyred in 304 during the time of the Emperor Diocletian.
In the holy chapel a statue by the La Morra artist John Vassallo, represents the saint.
Her relics are preserved in Venice in the church dedicated to her.
The martyred saint is celebrated on December 13th in this chapel, which not only attracts the townsfolk of Novello, but also believers from neighboring towns who pray to her to protect their vision.
