In the area along the climb up Marchesi Oreglia Street toward the castle there are three defense watchtowers on the high wall, which clearly protected the area around of the castle.
G. Casalis writes that "three imposing gates are still standing, providing access to the town of Novello in which were housed the imperial armies during the time when this town was a feudal empire and enjoyed many privileges and exemptions".
The arch, located in the extant part of the walls, was restored in 1995.
The third gate now no longer exists, nor did it exist when G. B. Maiolo, pastor of Novello, wrote his monograph at the beginning of last century. Evidence gathered suggests that it was located at the exit to Guglielmo Marconi Street in Guglielmo Marconi Square.
